instrument panel cluster light problem

does anyone know how to fix this?
only the sections which display which gear i am in and the odometer do not light up. i'm talking about that dim green light. obviouly only noticable at night but it's kind of annoying when you are parallel parking and forget which gear you are in.
i have a 2001 escape xlt.

Re: instrument panel cluster light problem

The bulbs are either burned out or are loose in their sockets. I haven't had to do my Escape, but I did replace them in my 98' Sable. If you go to the trouble of pulling the instrument cluster out, it is wise to replace all the bulbs. Nothing more frustrating than replacing the burned out ones, then have a different one go out a month later. I suggest starting with the screws that are visible around the cluster to take it out. Be carefull not to force it. The Sable had a screw hidden behind the environmental controls, so I had to pull that out also to get the cluster out. Those engineers can never make anything easy.
