Re: Gutting the pre cats

You have a 97, yes it will throw a CEL. Get o2 sims from 3sx.

Re: Gutting the pre cats

Even only being SOHC I liked the difference. May not be much power, but every little bit helps.

Re: Gutting the pre cats

SORRY, noob still learning the basics

What is a CEL?
What are o2 Simulators/what do they do?
I have a 97 SL and this sounds like a fairly simple (though time consuming) project...Will it mess with emissions and make my car illegal? Im not really lookin to do that.

Re: Gutting the pre cats

CEL: Check Engine Light

as for passing or failing emissions it just depends on the state you're in, each one is different...some dont even have inspection

as for o2 simulators...i dont know...can garuntee stealthee does

Re: Gutting the pre cats

the o2 simulators hook up to the o2 sensors... the o2 sensors get a certain resistance that they have to stay in, in order for your check engine light not to come on, so if you gut the pre cats, the o2 sensors will have a different reading and it will set the check engine light on. so you hook up the o2 simulators and they will simulate the resistance, making the ecu think that everything is ok, so your check engine light won't come on even though you have your precats gutted... so far to my knowledge i think that is what they do but stealthee would be a better source

Re: Gutting the pre cats

It wont mess with emissions.

As stated it makes the ECU believe the pre cat's properly functioning by sending the correct signals to the ECU.

Re: Gutting the pre cats

from what i've seen the precats only function befor the car and exhaust is at running temp, after that all you need is the main cat

Re: Gutting the pre cats

Well then with o2 simulators telling my car that everything is ok with my engine, Will my CEL come on if there actually is a problem that I need to know about?
