I just replaced the transmission fluid and filter on my 2000 Ford Ranger and realized I forgot to put the O-rings on the filter. Do I have to drop the pan and put the O-rings on or can I leave them off without any damage to the transmission?

Re: Forgot O-rings on transmission filter
You need to replace the seal. If not the fluid can bypass the filter and cause drivability problems.

Re: Forgot O-rings on transmission filter
The pump might not be able to pick up the fluid from the bottom. Which I'm sure would hurt tranny. Drop the pan again and put O ring in. I would reuse the fluid again but be real careful to drain in clean pan and keep all dirt out of the fluid
