Replacing entire door... a couple of quesions.

I am replacing the passenger side fender and door on my 2000 Alero due to unrepairable damage. This will be the second time that I replace a door and quarter panel on a vehicle. I am not worried about replacing the fender, that is the easy part.

My questions are pertaining to the door:

• Is it OK if I just cut the electrical cables going to the door or will I need those for the new door?
• Is it extremely hard to remove the insides of the door, like the window, window motor and lock?

I wouldn't cut the wires as they will probaly be needed for the new door, as for removing the elements from your old door it is pretty straight forward. Take off the inner door panel expose the different elements, window motor etc. unplug the wires going to the different motors you should be able to push them and the attached grommet through the old door. Once you have removed the old door you can then remove any motor that you need. The new door should come with all the motors and electrical stuff, unless you bought a stripped one. I just changed over the driverside door on my Caravan took me all of an hour to do the job as it is fairly easy.

With my old car, someone hit me so I had to replace the door. The door came right off and all of the components plugged in easily. This Alero door looks a little more complicated. Thanks for the explanation, it certainly made me feel comfortable doing this myself now.

I have seen a mechanic pull the entire window and window regulator out in less than 15 minutes. Should be easy.
