Blend Door Inquiry

I have a 1996 Chevy Astro. I cannot get the blend door to move. In fact, I cannot even locate the blend door. If and when I find the door, can I adjust it manually? Also, is the actuator vacuum operated or electric?

Much Thanks,

FB

Re: Blend Door Inquiry

The HVAC doors are vacuum operated. Most likely cause is a broken vacuum line from the fitting on the driver side rocker arm cover to the HVAC connections near the accumulator and evaporator. The 1/8" black plastic line dries out, cracks and breaks. When the HVAC system loses vacuum, it defaults to the defrost position. Cut out the bad plastic tubing and use a length of 1/8" ID rubber vacuum line for the repair. No clamps are necessary as the new line will fit tightly over the existing plastic line.
