I did some searching but didnt find anything...
Anyway, For a little while when i was in 5th gear, if i let off the gas it would slip out of the gear. Now its gotten worse and it will slip out of 5th even if im just driving normally. What could be cause ing this? syncros? its odd to me because its the fith gear and not the first or second.

look in the engine bay there is probably somthing in the way.. part the car and put it in 5th.. make sure there is nothing touching the cables in that position

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
oh haha sorry umm your going to have too move your intake.. the cables go through the fire wall but the problem is going to be most likly where they connect to the tranny.. you will see the cables when you take out the air box/MAS sensor

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
Or it may be the nut that holds 5th gear in the transmission is backing off. That will cause it also, and if you wait too long you will break the case on the transmission. You need to take the endcase off the trans to get to the nut.

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
ok, I looked at the cables, they are pretty cool actually, i was shifting though the gears with them haha, They both looked good though, nothing blocking their paths or anything.
so how do i get to that 5th gear bolt skinny was talking about? I see some bolts on the tranny so im guessing i take a few of them off and then the cover comes off. Does this make fluid run everywhere? I looked online but couldnt find much on our transmissions, i was hoping for some pics so i could see where the loose bolt may be. any help is appreciated guys

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
search 3si in the FWD Drivetrain forum for posts by me. i've helped people with this very problem several times. as talskinny said, you'll have to remove the end case on the transmission. to do this jack the right front tire up, remove tire, remove plastic, remove end case (~10 10mm bolts). doing this will expose the 5th/reverse gear and intermediate gear. search through my posts in those threads and you'll find plenty of pictures to walk you through. basically you need to check the torque spec on the two end nuts, then stake them. if ur still having the pop-out problem, then you'll need to take apart the 5th/reverse gear sets and see if any parts are missing or broken.

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
So I just fixed my tranny! hell yes!...ok, for future refference, the 5th gear kept poping out because of the loose nut as skinny had said. The symptoms began as the shifter in the cabin moving around a little when gas was applied or released and it was in 5th. took the passenger tire off and the plastic, removed the 7 12mm bolts holding on the end of the transmission, and then i had to hit it with a hammer a little, there is a little nub that it sits on as well. a little fluid came out but not much and you must be carefull to not loose the spring and ring that can sometimes fall out. tighten the end nut (mine was way loose) on the larger gear (5th) you can check the nut on the other visable gear (intermediate gear). put it all back together.. and done. i just saved around $150 bucks, prob more.

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
did you torque the end nut to spec? i recall its 109 ft-lbs.
also, did you make sure to stake the nut so that it won't back off/loosen itself in the future?

Re: 5th Gear Slip?
I used that penny trick to tighten the nut and I did restake it. There were two notches on mine though i only saw one on your pics, so i staked them both (and that was kind of a pita.
