Blower motor or resistor?

1995 Grand Am 3.1, how would I tell the difference between a bad blower motor and/or resistor?

I had absolutely nothing this morning, it's like the blower motor wasn't even there. I know the switch is good so that's why I'm thinking it's the motor.

Does the resistor just control the speed? If that was bad, wouldn't it just get stuck on a certain speed?

Also, how do I go about replacing this? I just had the dash apart fixing something else and I don't recall seeing the motor. I think I gotta get at it from under the hood?

Thanks!

Re: Blower motor or resistor?

If you have HIGH speed but no others, then most-likely the resistor is blown... What you need to do is check your connectors for power and ground at the different speed settings.

Welcome to AF Arokh.

If you checked the fuse and have no speeds I'd think it was the blower motor.
As emt1134 stated check the plug for power on different settings.
You can also jump a wire to the blower to see if it is working.

And they are under the hood.
