2000 alero problems

Hi everyone, cam across this site on a search an found some good info so wanted to join... Well my name is Tim, an my girlfriend has the alero an i been tryin to figure some things out. The car has been makin this hummingh type sound an someone told her it was her passanger side axle so i replaced that yesterday an still doing the exact same thing. I have read up an seems to be the hub assembly, was wondering is there any place to get just the bearings for that or do you have to buy the whole unit? Also all the dummy lights are on on the dash, she said they came on after her ex tried hooking up a radio, any suggestions there? also have the infamous heating cooling problem. It does not blow any heat out really what so ever! I changed the thermostat yesterday as well an still nothing, so know i have to locate the hvac n check that along with double checking fuses.. an on top of all this while i changed the thermostat a buddie of mine removed the throttle body an now that its all back together the car wants to die sometimes! Im thinkin he may of damaged the gasket, would that cause the car to want to idle very low sometimes n want to die or is there something else it could be since he did remove the throttle body? Once she gets here im going to try an check a few other things to rule out , but thanks for any advice or help in advance....

Welcome to AF.

The hum is most likly the hub bearing/wheel speed sensor assembly.

The lights on the dash thiers only one way to know, get it scanned with an ABS capable scan tool.
Then post the exact codes and we'll see if we can figure it out.
Also check the fuses and relays, in all three fuse boxes.

With the no heat,, probly your heater core plugged.
Also if thiers an air pocket trapped in the cooloing system then you might not have heat either.
Thiers a purge valve on the pass side on the motor, right above the water pump, small brass fitting(s).

You just warm up the engine, slowly open the center bleeder valve until thiers no air coming out. It will help if the front of the car is slightly elivated and you turn you heater to high heat low fan

On the idle, thats controled by the Idle Air control valve IAC which is located on the side of the TB. Its probly dirty clogged.
And if the TB gasket is leaking then that too could contribute to idle problems.

Check out this Tips and Maintenance subforum, it says for grand am but the Alero is the sister to the GA.
Several procedures that will help you along.

I just got one problem solved, the heating one.. I had to replace the blower motor resistor then blam full blast heat.... but once i did the motor sounded horrible like something was caught in it...So i toke it off to find out there was part of some chip in the fins of the blower motor an the shaft of the blower motor was rusted up good so just soaked some 3n1 oil with it an let sit for a lil bit, an now works just as good as new...Atleast for the time being lol...sooo 1 down a few more to go , Thanks
