00 Grand Am all instrument lights out ,taillights,
I will start with my car
2000 Grand Am 2.4L I was installing a new radio and was plugging in the harness to make sure the radio worked before I finished taping up the harness. I dropped the radio forward and all of a sudden the problem began. ( the radio did have a couple exposed wires still from the wiring harness that may have touched something. Now here is the problem all the instrument panel lights are out, shifter console lights, door acc lights, hvac control lights, appears the foglights dont work either and the taillights do not work. Also after this problem occurred the "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON" light has come on and stayed on. What still works, headlights , turn signals, brake lights, and the warning lights in the console still work like check and service engine lights, high beam indicator, turn signal indicator. I checked all the fuses inside the car and under the hood and couldnt find a blown fuse, now I need some help to diagnose this problem as Icant drive at night with no taillights. ( the radio I installed works fine ) any info and help is greatly appreciated |

Re: 00 Grand Am all instrument lights out ,taillights,
Welcome to AF.
If you didnt blow any fuses in the 2 cabin area boxs or the under hood FB then you probly toasted your EBCM. ![]() Probly need a Tech II scan tool(the stealership) to find out what's burnt out. Good Luck !

Re: 00 Grand Am all instrument lights out ,taillights,
The EBCM is the electronic body control module, it controls the lighting(all interior), security/passlock, and the cluster & tails also the anouying chimes.
Again, Good Luck!

Re: 00 Grand Am all instrument lights out ,taillights,
I would run through the fuses just one more time.. make sure you are looking at all fuse boxes. Also, don't check fuses by just pulling them out and getting a visual. Use a test light and check each side of every fuse.. If you have power at one side, and no power at the other, then you have a bad fuse. If both side aren't getting power, then that probably just means that particular circuit only gets power with the key on, or engine running. Make sure you know what each fuse goes to.

You can have a bad or faulty BCM and still have certain things work. My GT has a bad BCM the only thing that it causes it the SVS light is always on. Everything else works great. Mine shorted from water leakin in the sunroof ![]() good luck bro

thanks i appreciate all the info, I never really had any problems with my Pontiac although it has been pretty damn reliable. I spend most of my time fixing and fixing and sinking more and more money into my VW Corrado moneypit |

Re: 00 Grand Am all instrument lights out ,taillights,
One other thing I forgot, a bad ignition switch can also cause your dash not to function properly.
I suppose that could get damaged too when the short occured...
