95 2.0 Severe engine miss
Hello everyone ... I am having an on going problem with a 95 contour 2.0 problem started with a random shifting in an out of gears, I noticed when this happened the engine would be missing when I put it in neutral.. Now it has gotten to the point where any time you apply throttle the engine begins to miss, idle seems to be fine. I have looked through this site and have not found the exact problem so I decided to post it... Any help would be appreciated since the car is right now not driveable.
Parts replaced TPC Plugs and wires Coil No change, no engine light on |

Have your fuel injectors cleaned, and change out your fuel filter. That might help.

Re: 95 2.0 Severe engine miss
Thanks for the replies, I will check fuel pressure when I get the chance. I hate that this car has to sit due to the fact that it has less than 50k miles on it.. had it to the dealer when the problem started, they recommended a 4k transmission because of the shifting problem.. the shifting problem is a result of the missing .. it only shifts bad when the car is missing... I was hoping someone else had encountered this problem and could point me in a direction.
Thanks Dave |

Re: 95 2.0 Severe engine miss
If it is still missing you might try new ignition wires to the plugs. There is nothing wrong with your transmission. It is supposed to downshift when there isn't enough power in the current gear. Seems that the plug wires start shorting out whenever you need power the most---under acceleration.

Re: 95 2.0 Severe engine miss
Do a compression check too.The 2.0 is known for bad headgaskets and that will cause a miss too.Try taking it to someone that knows Mazdas, the 2.0 is Mazda engine.

Re: 95 2.0 Severe engine miss
I'm going through the same problem, I think -- bad shifts when throttling. I am out of warranty so I haven't been dealing with a Ford dealership but a local service garage. Anyway, after a lot of transmission rebuild the problem came back, and it appears that it's related to cracking of the wiring in the main sensor wiring harness and injector wiring harness. Manual tape-up of this wiring doesn't work very long, as you might guess.
I found this recall: http://www.contour.org/FAQ/recall/99M03/ I also have these part numbers: Main Sensor Wiring Harness F5RZ1EA581S6A Injector Wiring Harness F5RZ9D93S6A However, I can't even find these used on the entire interweb so far. If I can't find these my only recourse is to buy new parts, which are in stock but will apparently cost $2000. ![]() Ugh! |
