I'm done.

The old piece of shit left me stranded today again for the umpteen time in 6 months. I have hereby pronounced upon it 'yard ornament' status. I am not even going to touch it anymore. Seen as this is the 3rd GM product in a row we've had that i've watched break, i am now disavowing myself of anything GM. I've got an appointment to go in and look at an F250 this afternoon, and i should probably get a good deal on it. Until then, i'll borrow my dad's car.

I just can't fuckin take it anymore. It's a constant source of stress for me. My bank account is being drained by this leech. I want to send the terminator back to the 80's to take out GM's engineering team, screw John Conner.

Re: I'm done.

Ha... I think I've said this before too... But I always end up getting it running again...

Think you have problems with this thing? If that F250 is a 99 or newer then you'll have more problems with it than the Firebird... My dad has a few newer F350's and they are always breaking down on him. He has an old 87 F350 that runs like a champ still to this day... I can't believe how bad Ford has gone downhill in the last 20 years...

Re: I'm done.

I'm looking at 2 different trucks actually. A 1990 F250 turbo-diesel, and a 1993 F-350 N/A diesel. Both regular cab long beds.

Thats exactly right. My girlfriends dad has a newer f250 and the dahm thing breaks like every winter. It makes it through the summer, then something always goes on it.

Re: I'm done.

Planning on it. It's also straight-piped and has a zf-5 tranny. Nothing like an old Ford pickup. We had an 86 F250 Reg Cab/Long Bed with a 4-spd manual and a diesel, and it was pretty nice, traded it in on a 92 F350 Crew Cab Long Bed with a 351 and a 5-speed. Reason for trading was we needed a crew cab, and it was a good deal. We've enjoyed both trucks, still have the 92. Only part we've replaced is an alternator and a couple starters. :thumbsup

Re: I'm done.

Or, I could go buy another chevy pickup....
let's see
our 1990 GMC with a 6.2 Diesel, 3 engines within 4 years.....
our 1985 Jimmy that fried all it's wiring real easy
our 1992 Chevy half ton that had nothing working on it and a busted transmission when we sold it with only 100K miles.....

I'd say the Ford would be a good idea, our Ford's have never given us a reason to want a different make.

Re: I'm done.

Lol, a couple days ago, some kid in a 80's corolla(you know, the ones with that whopping 70 hp) wouldn't shut up about how it's the fastest car ever, because he got it going 80. It sounds like a weedwhacker on wheels, it's completely stock, it's falling apart, and it has 200K on it. He tried to out run me from a stop light, and failed miserably. now he's gone and bought himself a 'bottle'. And he's bragging how it will add a lot of power. I told him to get that thing installed as fast as possible, because I want to pass him while he's picking up pieces of his motor off the highway.

Damn it, same's happening to me. I just can't really afford to switch cars right now i guess. I'm gonna have to keep throwing parts at this one and hope it works...... I was gonna get the starter off today and take it in to have it tested, but when i put her up on the ramps, they collapsed right before i crawled under. I must be on good terms up above, because it didn't wait until i was under there to fall. So once i get it into my buddy's shop and crawl into his pit to take the starter off, i'll have it tested, and i believe i still have the receipt and a warranty on it. I figure the problem is one of two things. The cable could be loose, or there is a dead spot on the starter. Once i get it fixed, i'll just need new tires and i'll be set for the winter. Until then, i can still drive the minivan as a spare when it's not running.

On the bright side, i did get to drive her around a bit today. Nothing like starting up your firebird after having it set for a week, that low rumble as it comes out of dormancy and roars to life......

Re: I'm done.

Hmmm... had 4 fords... '94 Bronco, 04 Supercrew, 04' Explorer and '87 F150. None of them were worth a more than about a quart of piss.

Had 4 chevy's - my 97 Z71 I got rid of becuase some dumbfuck mechanic puut a non-year 2000 compliant chip in it and no one could figure out what was wrong with it... STILL kicking my own ass for ever getting rid of it. Had a 86 S-10 Blazer that had 210,000 on it when I sold it to 4 mexian guys, who subsequently drove it to mexico 11 times over the next 2 years and which I lost touch with them. Had an 01 Silverado that had a bad trans - went at 20,000. That was the only Chevy I've owned that really was a faulty GM product, but it was under warranty, they fixed it, and it was all good.

My maro is a different story - it's over 37 years old, and has had god knows how many owners, who have been through it god knows how many times. I'm accepting the fact that shit will break until I've fixed them properly. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

We had this intermittent problem with an ElCamino. Failed to start at the most inconvenient times, yet everything tested good.

Was a rotten spot way INSIDE the battery cable.

turned out to be a Cheap fix, no way to determine the problem, other than talking to an ASC mechanic with 60 years of personal experience.
