?'s about engine swap

I have read all the post about swapping from a 4.3 to a 5.7 and have a basic knowledge about how everything is supposed to fit together like the tranny and mounts. What I don't know is what would be eaiser getting an engine that is carb or fuel injected? I have heard from different people that say the carb would be easier and then from others that say find a junkyard and go pull a the fi system off a truck there and it will work. I'm also wondering what will be cheaper and/or easier to do: get a long block and have to buy all the other neccesary parts or just find a turn key crate engine that just bolts up. I'm not looking for anything to fancy just a basic 350 that gets around 300hp.

The truck I have now is a 1997 cheynne w/ 4.3 vortec v6, 5-speed manual transmission.

Thanks for any inputs.

Re: ?'s about engine swap

Me personally I'd stick with fuel injection. You might end up having to change out the computer also but I'm not 100%. My guess is that your existing wiring harness will be good. There will be some plugs you'll have to start using that you were'nt using on 4.3L. As far as the cheapest route, I'd say definantley a long block. A long block is going to have everything you need, buying a short block is when you have to start buying all the accessories. Also, alot of parts from your 4.3 will be the same exact parts for a 5.7.
