Back For More
I'm in college and I'm looking at gettin a 96 Tsi Talon. I've had a 91 and 96 and I'd like to keep movin up the ladder with a turbo now.
THE CAR HAS A APEXI FULL CATBACK EXHAUST, GREDDY FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER, GREDDY TURBO TIMER, A 3 GUAGE POD WITH NO GAUGES IN IT AND 17INCH RACING RIMS. It is an auto w/ 132k miles on it. I go to Da U so I need a car thats pretty reliable and gets decent gas mileage to get me from MN to Miami and back for the beginning and end of the semesters. I probably wouldn't drive much in the city just goin to the beach and parties on weekends. I know my n/ts got about 30-32 mpg so if the turbo would get me 25 mpg I'd be happy. So what do you guys think. I know turbos aren't as reliable but I'd like to keep movin up the Talon ladder. The auction ended so I'm going to go test drive it this weekend and the max I would pay is $2k. Are there any certain things I should look for on a turbo as compared to a n/t? Here is the link to the car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200158818457 Thanks for any help I can get.

Re: Back For More
If you can get it for 2k it might not be to bad. Just make sure you do the maintenance and it should be pretty reliable. As far as I can tell it looks like he did take pretty good care of the motor so you should be fine.

Re: Back For More
Check the turbo for shaft play. (Side to side movement. There should be practically none, but maybe just a slight amount.) I'm not sure what else you should check besides the normal car stuff before buying one... Just go over it pretty good and you should be fine.

Re: Back For More
A side from the bumper still being primered, the chrome ricer nozzles, and messed up head lights the car looks to be in decent shape. I'd definatly try to get that thing for $2000 no more than $2500.
I would also get the bumper painted red or the whole car painted, the bumper looks like it was only primered. Also, get rid of the Mitsubishi emblem and replace it with an Eagle emblem. Trust me, the Eagle emblem looks sick on a 2GB Eclipse bumper. Replace those turning yellow head lights too. And eventually get better looking rims, once you've done that, you should have a sweet looking Talon. And for crying out loud, either replace the ricer nozzles or paint them black...

Same here , The U of Utah . A 2G turbo for for that price would be a good deal...if it was a 5 speed. Looks like it has a lot more than a little work to be done..also if you dont know how to look over a car and do some simple inspections of a used car before purchased , I would take it in for a diagnostics or hae a mechanic buddy go check it out..
