clubwagon steering

clubwagon steering

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have a 86 clubwagon 460c.i. auto/power windows /locks/tilt wheel 3/4 ton runs drives looks great but the steering seems to wonder all over the road when driving and gets worse when i go faster,
and it has good tires on it all around.
looks like the ajusting screw is turned down even with the nut on the steering box.
everthing seems tight under neath
i have been pushing and pulling on everything in the front end seems ok.
just the play in the steering
and on the tilt wheel it will not lock in the first 2 positions all the way forward almost like some one pulled hard on it and stripped it it will lock in the straight position or if you have it down it will lock but not up in the 2 top positions
thanks for any and all help

Re: clubwagon steering

It could be any of a number of things. The steering gear (box) could be worn beyond what can be adjusted. The tie rod ends could be worn. Idler arm and ball joints could be bad. The wheel bearings could be loose. The thing to do would be to take it to an alignment shop and have it checked. The alignment person will check all the front suspension parts before aligning it. If it needs any parts they will bring it to your attention as aligning a front end that is worn beyond servicable limiits is not capable ofd holding an alignment.
