Re: Turning off ABS light?

Yes the light should go off by itself if everything is all good. But you can also unplug the battery to reset your codes.

Re: Turning off ABS light?

Ok if you disconnect the battery then reconnect it, the code will still be stored in the computer as a previous issue. BUT, if you disconnect then reconnect the battery it also makes the computer to rescan everything and will only kick on a light if the problem (or a new problem) is still there.

I've seen the light stay on after disconnecting the battery even after the problem was fixed. Couldn't tell you for sure what kind of vehicle though. Think it was a Chevy...

Re: Turning off ABS light?

My suggestion is to go to a GM dealer that you may have a good relationship with and ask if they can just clear your codes with the TECH 2. It takes a total of 2 minutes MAX. If they aren't complete a**holes, they will just do it out of kindness.

Re: Turning off ABS light?

It is unecessary to clear codes if the problem is corrected, as I said in my earlier post.

Re: Turning off ABS light?

The light will not come on, but if you want to do things right, you should always clear the codes even if they are just in history.

It's hard to find a mechanic who'll do anything for free. It's not an issue of being an a**hole, but rather having spent $3,000 or more on a piece of equipment and having someone ask to, essentially, borrow it. If you did the work yourself (why else have them only clear the code(s)), you clearly aren't a loyal customer and they have no reason to want you to come back. Plus, a lot of customers will ignore the signs that say "Please use front door" with a big arrow pointing to the front door, and come in and ask me if they can borrow a screwdriver, hammer or whatever else. Mechanics eventually get to where they just want that annoyance out of the shop so they can get back to work.

Re: Turning off ABS light?

I said, find a dealer that you "may have a good relationship with". Often, people own multiple cars that were bought at the same dealership, and have had essentially most of their service work done there. Just because someone does a job themselves, doesn't make them unloyal. I know the way the business operates, I am a technician for General Motors. It is not uncommon for a service advisor to grab a TECH 2, go out to the customer's vehicle, and then say, "ok you're all set."
