Gear box issues in 95 swift

Hi everyone

I'm actually drive a mazda rx3 but the mrs car is a 95 (i think) 1.3 4door swift..

I don't know much about these cars so thought i'd put it out on the net to see if anyone can give me some info...

I don't know what she did but it's stuck in 4th gear i think, maybe 5th and the gear stick is all floppy and doesn't select gears.. was a prick to get home!!!!! but it also punched a hole in the casting around the corner from home, next to what i could feel was a gear, the hole is just above the gear selector shaft that goes into the gear box... the box drove fine in the one gear and didn't make any noise... I've popped a few g/boxs in the mazda so i know that the gears are fine, hopefully.... i'm thinking that maybe a selector has failed or jammed in between gears..

Any advice or gearbox diagrams would be a great help!!!!

Re: Gear box issues in 95 swift

If there is a hole in the gearbox, replace the transmission or have the hole welded over, over time the gear box is going to fill up with water, road grit, dust and dirt which will eventually destroy the transmission.

As far as it stuck in 4th goes... whatever punched that hole in the casing probably sprayed metal debris all through the tranny, drain the oil and start looking for little chunks of metal spread all through the shift levers and gear synchronizers.

Rebuilding manuals is not that hard, just have to get everything back together in the right order, it takes a small machine shops to rebuild automatics.
