power window problem
Hello all, I have a 1989 Taurus . I recently found out the front passenger power window stopped working. The passenger rear power window has never worked. When I press either button for the front passenger window I notice no dimming of the accessory lights. When I press the button for the rear passenger window I do notice the accessory lights dimming. While checking the master control switch I discovered that the button for the front passenger window was sticking. It would stick in the up and down position and not return to neutral when it was released. Now, is there a fuse or breaker for each window motor or has the motor been burnt out because the switch was sticking?
I've checked for voltage at the passenger front switch and it's there. I've also checked for resistance from the motor and there was none.

Re: power window problem
I'm not sure about the '89, but many of the newer cars have a circuit breaker integrated into each power window motor and gear assembly.

Re: power window problem
I've got a '97 GL and had the driver's window die in the down position. Ended up pulling off the door panel (no choice) to find that the switch was OK, but the motor wasn't. Removed it, shook it up, dropped it and it started working again. So I reinstalled it, drove around for 3 months with no door panel waiting for it to fail again, but it wouldn't. So the panel is back ON and the motor is still working.
Watch out with the door panel. On mine, I ended up snapping the heads off two of the "volcanoes" at the very top of the panel! To fix this, I cut two PVC "pipes" and installed them over the remnants of the fractured "volcanoes". Then I filled the cavity with Bondo, sanded the top, and attached very heavy duty velcro to the tops (and metal door) to make the new contact. |

Re: power window problem
You know you have power at the switch, but you should check to see if you have power and ground at the connector at the motor.
