Engine Swap Any Ideas

Well i have a 95 ga se. My sister over heated the car and smoked the head gaskets i think or maybe worped the heads. But anyways this was my first car and plan on keeping it for a back up car and to mess around with. What i want to know is if a 3.8 engine will fit in my ga with out to much work. I know that i can swap the 3.1 with a 3.4 but i was wondering if a 3.8 would fit cause its a more powerful engine and i can put a supercharger on it. are the 3.1 and 3.4 the same block with just a different strock or bore. If so would it be cheaper to just get the engine work done and hop it up. im not to sure if there the same but i know that you can supercharge a 3.4 and that there is more high performance parts out there for it.

My plans is to have a stock looking 4 door grand am thats faster than people think. I have a cutlass with a chevy 350 in it and it runs great but when i race people know that its fast cause of how it sounds. But if i roll up in a grandma 4 door car the looks like its seen better days and blow there doors off sounds like tons of fun.

Re: Engine Swap Any Ideas

Welcome to AF.

Yeah it can be done but it's probly more work and money then you want to spend. Your 95 if it has the 3.1 with the engine mounts on the top of the radiator support then it makes things easier. A tiny bit easier.

But if you want to do a 3.8 or Super charged 3.8 you might spend 1000 hrs and $5000-6000.
Installing the motor and trans is the easy part.
Installing the wire harnessesss, reprogramming PCM & EBCM and tuning can be a nightmare!!!!

If you search the Net thier are sites dedicated to these type of swaps, but I dont have any links to them.

I bet if you googled it, you'll find some more precise and helpfull answers and people who have done it, which can help A LOT.

Good Luck
