Weird Smell from engine
I have a 05’ GP with a little less than 30k miles. Within the last month I’ve notice a strange odor coming from the car whenever it would run for a while, especially coming off the freeway, that’s when the odor is at its worst. Not exactly sure how to describe the smell, but does not seem to be a burning gas or oil smell. I plan on taking it in, but I would like to have an ideal of what could be the cause of this odor before I do.
Thank you.

Re: Weird Smell from engine
Doe it smell like "rotten eggs"? If so, could be a CAT problem. If its a sweet smell, you might have a minor coolant leak somewhere. Can you smell it after you park the car?

Not sure if it’s a "rotten egg "smell maybe, but I can smell it after I park.

Re: Weird Smell from engine
Sounds like a Cat issue to me! Probably partically blocked or overheating for one reason or another. Covered by the 80K emissions warranty so let the dealer handle it.

Re: Weird Smell from engine
A bad brake hose or stuck caliper can produce a burning smell, and this is usually accompanied by a particularly hot wheel, so that's something else you can check.

Re: Weird Smell from engine
i bet ya its the coolent. My car did that to, it had a nasty burnt smell and when you pop the hood you could see the steam where the coolent was leaking out and being burnt up by the block of the engine
