Over Bore Question

Since a hole was punched thru piston #1 in my car I figure might as well over bore. Just wondering if you guys have an estimate to see if I can fit it in my budget. Also where do yu get this done, performance shops? Anyone know of anywhere in the North Minneapolis area?

Take the block to a machine shop to get it bored. Not real sure on a price, I wouldn't think it would that high though.

Yeah I think i paid like 10 or 15 bucks a cylinder to get it bored out to .020 over. Machine work is pretty inexpensive. I would just find a machine shop in your area and have them look at it. Depending on how bad your cylinder walls are you may not be able to bore it out that much...

So lets say I get down there and the walls arnt up to par. Do i have to scrap the whole part?

You will be fine unless the walls are just extremely bad. Which in your case I highly doubt.

That sounds awefully cheap for overboring. If you find a shop that does DSM motors often there is a better chance they'll have a torque plate for the 4g63. Bore as little as possible (according to the .020"/.5mm increments) so you get as many rebuilds out of that block as possible. Up to 060 over you're alright, that's essentially the stock bore size of the 2.4 liters. Over that it get riskier. At ~700 whp+ people have cracked cylinder walls on 2.4s 020 over.

I know that .020" is not a lot of change but does this play with thefuel injection at all??? Should I ned any mods to maintain power after boring?

Yeah, you only gain about 23.5cc of displacement when you bore .020" (.5mm) over.... thats .023 of a liter.
