How much power Am I making?

Hey guys first of all DON'T WORRY I've consulted the FAQ many times and I'm pretty familiar with the section on N/A upgrades. Long story short I have a 97 Sl with a test pipe (7-8 hp) cold air intake (~1 hp) and a custom/catback exhaust (??? hp). The guide didnt say exactly how much hp the exhaust gives, all it says is that you gain top end power and the ability to pull to redline harder. So how much of a gain to I get from the exhaust? I'd really like to plant a solid number on my car's hp. Thanks

Re: How much power Am I making?

honestly.. take it to a dino.. cause for all we know your car had this crazy reaction to that intake and you really got like 25 HP from it.. (not really but still..) I would just take it to the dino.. but thats just me..

Re: How much power Am I making?

the only thing is that I dont think there is a dyno anywhere around here. I mean I've never actually looked (maybe I should) but i've lived here for about 10 years and in that time I've never seen anywhere that would come close to hagving a dyno. MAYBE in the garage of the only race and performance parts store in the area, but I dunno its a pretty small place. How much do dyno's cost?

Re: How much power Am I making?

and for that matter, would anyone with spare time be willing to briefely describe exactly how a dyno works? Ive seen videos and it looks like u just drive your car onto a platform with little conveyer belts under your wheels and something drives your car in place while it records the data. But how does it record the data, and are you driving or is it hooked up to a computer that drives it for you, etc etc

Re: How much power Am I making?

A dyno works by driving the car onto the rollers, then the car starts driving "in place" and the computer attached to the rollers computes the horsepower, then it puts a load on the rollers and measures the cars reaction (this is what actually gives you the hp reading) its kind of complicated but thats the jist of it. for more in depth go to www.howstuffworks .com and search horsepower, dyno, and internal combustion engine. very helpful site.

Re: How much power Am I making?

Actually a dyno measures torque, and with calculations figures out hp.
