Re: Po410

I have a 2002 Impala that had the same problem.

The Air Pump is located in the driverside fender towards the front. It pumps air into the exhaust to help with emissions.

On mine (and many others) the check valve on the pump line was allowing condensation to back flow into the rubber boot that encases the pump. Eventually the boot filled with water and shorted out the pump blowing the fuse and setting off the check engine light. during winter the water froze inside it.

I have read some articles that say there is a dealer recall and the replace everything because it's part of the emissions and some people that had no luck with the dealer and said it cost them almost $1,000 because they replace the pump and all hoses and valves.

I took the easy way out. I removed the air pump, a bit tricky, then made a hole the size of a quarter in the bottom of the rubber boot to allow the water to drain out.

Been 2 years now and no problems. Except that I can hear when it starts but it only runs for 4 minutes.
