Battery drainage.

1992 oldsmobile dalta eighty eight 3.8 litre engine, automatic transmission
200,000 miles,Please if any one can help with this problem i"am having.
If the car sets for more that two days it drains the battery completely down.
If you start it once a day its ok.I have replace the battery, with a new one,
I have check all the fuses.I took the alternator in too smpths auto parts
They said it was good, but they would sell me a new on if wanted.all so the
Guy said when he took the the ground off while testing it it lost voltge you
Would thing this would be bad.all so auto zone tested it.but i did not tell Them about disconnecting the ground wire, all so is there a ground wire connected to the alternator some where, because when i took the alternator
Off the car there was only one wire and that was the hot wire to the alternator.

Re: Battery drainage.

lol the ground is connected to the chassis of the alternator!! the ground goes through the engine and through the bolts of the alternator. ok, so look at your struts and tell me if you have the air suspension. a leak in this would cause the pump to try to keep the car level and eventually drain your battery. i've heard of this happening more than once. how old is the battery, it could just be bad.

Re: Battery drainage.

if you have the air suspension there will be a rubber surround on the shaft of the strut. also there will be a hose the connects to it. i am not certain where on the strut the hose come out but if it is not there then you don't have air suspension.

check out this website it tells you how to isolate a drain problem. odds are this will help you out a lot.
