Smile Newb Here :)

Hi all.

I own a 99'Red G20t & I'm a newb . *bows*

I have a question about a sound system. I have read through the other threads to get an idea of what everyone has for a system and so forth.

Now I ask you. What kind of system should I look for that is affordable and 'good'. I know it's mostly about personal preference in most cases, but I would like some input.

I've heard a lot about Pioneer and Kenwood on this board.

I listen to mostly Dance/Trance - so I was told (by a friend) that 2 10's would be good enough. Would that be safe to say, or should I look into something greater?

I don't want to go into a car audio store and not know what I am talking about . I want to know pretty much what system will "get the job done", as far as projecting quality sound and good bass. Right now, seeing how I have the factory BOSE system, I don't need something SUPER EXPLOSIVE - but a system that people will notice .

So any help would be appreciated.

Great board (good I found this place, thought I was alone) - great sites g20.net g20style. I hope to have pictures of my G20 soon.

Thanks,

Luke B.

Welcome to the little community we call home Im sure you will get lots of replies on what to get.

Myself, I prefer Pioneer for my head units. I have had nothing but good with them. I think they are even better than my friends Kenwood.

As for the speakers go, I have all Kenwoods in the factory spots, with no subs. So I cant help much there.

Well both of the mentioned Decks are good options to get, First thing I would do is compile a list of things you want in your deck.

Then go window shopping & ask lots of questions.
Write down what each deck has that you like, then compare list when you get home. You may find some things you like in one deck but are better in the other.

Be cool about your shopping as these sales guys will hype up the decks & will push you to make a rash decision.

Also wait for sales with Christmas coming up & end of the year inventory clearences there will be good deals on top end decks.

Always check your pre-outs.

Plan out your system so it determens your deck, A little planing will help you out on the long run when you wan't to upgrade your system in the future .

Also a big key when they show you a deck & they turn it up & let you listen to the sound, remeber to ask them how much watts/RMS are going in the speakers.
They having you listen to. (many shops will use a high curent amp so it sounds sweet in the shop but once you put it in you wonder were it all went & then they try to sell you the amp & the speakers after the fact!)

Well shop around bud you will find something you like!

i had a system before that had kenwood everything and a jl w0 sub, very inexpensive. if i had to do it all over again on the same budget i had before, i'd probably get the same setup except newer...but anyways...

get a decent deck with 3 sets of pre-outs(Front, Rear and Non-Fade(sub)), a 5 channel amp, a set of components in the front and co-ax's in the rear(or just get rid of your rear speakers if you want better sound imaging + its cheaper) and a sub(depending if you want pounding bass 3 - 12 inchers or just to have something there 1 - 8") its all aout your personal preference, listen to everything in your budget, see what you like, then go for it, good luck.

btw you can't go wrong with kenwood if your on a budget, just to let you know

welcome to the life of a G rider.
i like kenwood excelon decks. imo they are the best for your money. but you can't go wrong with a pioneer or alpine deck.

as far as speakers go i like polks and bostons. infinitys are nice also, but i don't think they're the best for your $.

subs-i have 3 mtx blue thunder 10s. if i had to do it over i would've got 1 good 10 or 1 good 12. i listen to techno also (gigi d'agostino (sp?) is my newest purchase, and it's a very very good cd, i'd recommend it if you don't have it already). anyway for techno you don't need something extreme, like you would with rap. i like mtx, xtant, some bostons, and if you want to go all out eclipse (they're the best that i know of, but very expensive).

you should go to a circuit city or soundtrack and check out what they have. most of the salesmen (that i've encountered) also listen to dance music so they'll show you something good for your needs. also shop around, and keep an eye out for sales. might want to check out e-bay also, if you can put it in yourself.

Hey
10s are good for quick bass kick
good for techno...but...when you want to go low...
they can't...well..nothing lower then the 35hz mark?
go for 12s...they are quick...and can go lower too...
one thing that you should keep in mind...
power is THE most important thing here...
doesn't matter what subs you have..without enough clean power driving them...they can sound as bad as you want them to be
if you do want SQ (sound quality)...try getting some 6.5 up on your front doors...
i have 2 pairs of RF fanatic Qs 6.5 on my front doors...
that mid kick is good enough that my subs are running at the 60hz crossover point... (less work for them)

if you want people to notice your sounds...
you probably want subs that are bigger in physical size...as they will travel further..alot further.....
enclosure too is a major issue

Thanks for the welcome and advice everyone .

I have taken the liberty to write all this down and "study" a little bit, to ensure that it sounds like I know what I'm talking about when "audio shopping" .

I will keep in mind the advice pointed out about looking for audio at the end of the year, when prices will go down. Hopefully, with all the information posted here, I'll get myself a decent system. And when I do, I'll include pictures and let you all know what I got. I should have pictures of my G this week (which I will post in the General forum).

Welp, that's it .

Thanks again guys!

Re: Newb Here :)

If you get a nice alright kenwood head unit. Also get 2 10`s jl audio w3 and 2 300 watt amps and bridge both speakers. 1 speaker on each amp. It should sound nice you will get notice but not to loud.
