Removing factory sound deadening material

Hey, I am stripping the interior of a Honda Civic hatch, prepping it for paint. And of course there is that nasty factory sound deadening material. I was just wondering if there is an easy way to get that crap up? Or does anyone have any tips on removing it? Thanks

As long as it's not a newer car wihin the last few years , that material should be fairly brittle and you can easily chip it out with a knife or screw driver or putty knife. However , in my 99' RS , I used a heat gun to seperate and weaken the bond to the metal and it worked fairly easy. However , it's a long job no matter how you look at it.

Yea that stuff is really messy to remove. There is no easy way.
