In-dash fold out question

whats up guys i just finished installing my in dash last night and i thought i had a solution to the override problem (driving while a movie is playing). i was told to wire the e-brake safety wire (from back of reciever) to the power antenna wire of the wiring harness. i also (obviously) hooked the power antenna wire from the reciever to the power antenna of the wiring harness. so in the end, i soldered the power antenna and ebrake wires (from reciever) to the power antenna wire of the harness (three way splice). now, not only does it not work when im driving, when the truck is in park and the ebrake is engaged it still reads "it is unlawful to drive with screen in view and pull the ebrake up blah blah blah.."

does anyone know how i could fix this, maybe another way to wire it to override the safety feature? i know it can be done, just need some direction. sorry for the huge post, thanks

Re: In-dash fold out question

you didn't here it from me, but you need to either ground it or look on ebay for a module type thing that people use for boat installs.

Re: In-dash fold out question

that lead needs to be grounded (as stated above), you have connected to 12V instead

Re: In-dash fold out question

i just went out to play with it, held the wires in place and it worked, went to wire them, try it again and it didnt. so correct me if im wrong, but...
-the ebrake wire (from ebrake) should be grounded
-the ebrake wire (from reciever) should meet that wire at the ground?
thanks PaulD, from what i hear you know your stuff when it comes to this.

Re: In-dash fold out question

the one from the reciver needs to be grounded to complete the circuit. grounding the ebrake might work but i can see it f up stuff like abs and the brake light will always be on. what in dash are you using?

Re: In-dash fold out question

ok, so the ebrake wire just stays where it is, attached to the button under the lever?

Re: In-dash fold out question

yea, when you raise up on the ebrake it lets the switch up - that grounds the wire going to it.

Re: In-dash fold out question

i tried that, it didnt work. heres what i did... i wired the ebrake wire (from the deck) to the ebrake wire (under the ebrake lever). it worked beautifully. i soldered everything, put the car back together (turning the key and trying it and it worked after every screw i put in) until i went to run the engine to charge the alternater... blue screen. when the key is in acc, it works. when the car is running, it doesnt. any ideas?

Re: In-dash fold out question

Do you have an automatic tranny? I wired mine to what I thought was the parking brake switch wire (for the tranny) and not my parking/e-brake pedal deal in my Blazer. I dunno if it was the right wire though. The only time it doesn't play DVDs is when i use the brake pedal (by the gas). Plays DVDs when i'm driving (which i would never do) as well as in Park. Weird.

Re: In-dash fold out question

those things are easy to trick if it is a jensen i have the bypass code
if not hook the ground up to a momentary switch button thing off the ground
or ground the wire, unground, and ground again
