1990 Accord

What about a 1990 Honda Accord with 170,000 miles for $750???? Is this a good deal or will it die on my soon. How long will it last me I plan on getting a new car when I graduate High School in May 2008

I am only driving this to work and school

Re: 1990 Accord

No way to tell but the mileage is not scary for an Accord...have seen many with 250,000 still running fine.

Chances are it will have some electrical issues, that's typical of that age.

But what do you want for $750? Hard to find a car that runs and passes inspection anymore for under $1000....

Take it to a shop and ask their opinion, better to spend $25 to have someone who knows what they are looking at give you an opinion than waste all your money on a turd.

Re: 1990 Accord

What kind of shape is the car in? Do you get a sense that the car was taken care of. Any car you buy for under a couple (or a few) thousand is going to carry some risk. $750 isn't much for most any car that runs. I'd try to get some history on it, see how it drives, get a sense for yourself, what you think you are dealing with. Also, at that price it helps if you can do some basic repairs yourself. Does it need tires, brakes, battery, etc How long it will last you is a bit of a guess. With 170k miles, if it's been reasonably maintained you should get another 40k-50k miles. If you don't put more than 3k-5k miles a year on it, it could potentially last for years. There will be maintenance of course. the cars approaching 20 years old. Things are going to break. For what you want to spend you're certainly looking at the right type of car. You want a Honda, Toyota or Nissan.
Forgot to add, whatever you buy, don't push it. Drive it gingerly or you'll destroy it. You really don't want to push a car with that many miles on it, if you want it to last.
