98 mercury mystique

Hi

I lost a key to my mystique...which is a chip key and trying to figure out the cheapest way to replace it??

If i have only one key now can I somehow program the new key myself or can i somehow use a non chip key? Is there a way to disable the chip reader??

Help

Re: 98 mercury mystique

Sounds like a good question for the Mercury Mystique forum...

The Mercury Mystique is my favorite sub-model of the Silverado.

You really should post in the correct forum, but since I know the answer, here it is:

You can't program the new key yourself. If you want to use a non-chip key (assuming the same type of key: length, side dealeys, etc) you will need to get a wiring diagram for your car and "lie" to the computer inputs so it thinks that the key is always in the cylinder. Depending on your mechanical inclination and the avalability of wiring diagrams, you may be better off just paying for the new key.
