Question Lost in a big bad parts world.....

Hi,

My Jimmy fuel pump has gone according to my garage. They want to charge me 700 plus for the part alone and then labour. They also said I need a fuel filter.

I know it is the fuel pump as I got a second opinion, and was told the same price.

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy SLT, 4 door, A/C, 4.3 litre 4x4. VIN -

I would really like to buy the part online as they seem to be way cheaper.

Can you tell me is there anyway to make sure that this is the right fuel pump?

runaround

Or can someone point me in the direction of a reliable spot to get the pump shipped to Canada

I have very limited knowledge, but smart enough to know when to find a new garage...

Thanks for your time

Re: Need Help..Please....

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

I do have a garage (that I trust) that will install the part. I don't think they were trying to rip me off on the part, but just couldn't get it cheaper. Small town prices, too or not willing to source a different supplier, etc...

The mechanic suggested I look online for something cheaper and bring the jimmy back in.

Thanks for the welcome, Hubby is travelling, but I am sure he will love this fourm

Aftermarket units are much cheaper. BTW, that is the right pump.

I would recommend going with the AC Delco pump. The aftermarket ones such as airtex and carter have a short warranty and high failure rate. If you know someone mechancally inclined, it's not that difficult of a job. Can be done in 2.5 - 3.0 hours. I would question the validity of the bill, if they try to charge you more than 3.5 hours.
