This looks pretty nasty! The fluid looks toasted and the magnet looks like the bunghole of an Australian Sheppard! Purchase two or three tranny filters, 10 quarts of ATF-4, a tube of high-temp sealant, and begin a mild flush procedure...replace with clean fluid/filter...drain after 1K miles...replace with clean fluid/filter...drain after 1K miles...replace with clean fluid/filter...etc., until the 10 quarts is spent.

Re: trans Q.

Yes, he should def change trans fluid. But it is cheaper to use the tranny line (after you drop pan & fill w/ new fluid) since you don't have to keep drain/fill the van all the time. This method will get the old out of the rest of the trans. However, I know the routine, but which line is the return line to the transmission? And, has anybody done this on the caravan b4? I want to do it, but need to locate the proper line.

Any help?
