Question Please help with problem

Well here is the problem, i have a 89 hatch si and ever since i had it its had a stating problem. i had the first problem fixed(some relay). then the horror show started. half the time my car will start up with no problem what so ever. then the other half all i hear is a click when i turn it over. well i had the started replaced. it worked fine for about two weeks then it started again. then you would think ignition switch, well i had the switch by-passed when i installed a ignited push button start. car started fine for about two weeks and started doing it again. i have taken my car to the mechanic and doesn't know what it could be. but listen to this whenever my car won't start i can disconnect my battery for about 5 min and when i re-connect it the car starts right up evertime. so do you think i need a new ecu? my car has about 240,000 miles. well not the motor but the ecu does. please i need some help. thank you.

well something sure is wrong, but it looks to me like a starter problem again or battery problem, when you turn your key, and all you hear is a click, it means its your starter sylanoid(relay) making that click, therefore your starter motor is not kicking on because of lack of voltage...you might need to check your alternator/battery. Make sure your alternator is putting out 13.5-14 volts. If it is, check battery...may not be holding its charge when car is turned off for a while...make sure all the corrosion is off the terminals. If all that checks fine, replace your starter with a new one.

Yeh try replacing the ecu. Did you check your battery? My friend had a similar problem but his ecu was chipped "wrong'' so he replaced it back with stock for now. Or it could be the starter again. Where did u get it from? Is it new?

well i replaced the starter about 1 year ago and it was brand new. and i just got a new battery about 6 months ago, but i am going to have to check up on the alternator. and i am going to get a new ecu any way so i am going for the integra one.pg7. i ripped up the carpet today to see if the ecu was putting out any codes but it wasn't, and i don't know if its normal but when i turn the key on a red light flashes just once. normal? i'll get back to you on the alternator thing.

seriously don't replace your ECU, if your ECU was bad, your car would not even run, ECUs don't go out like a light bulb....

Yes its normal for the ECU to blink once when you turn the key.

Since you have a new battery, check the alternator, if the alternator is good, go ahead and get yourself a new starter...even new starters go bad.
