Cobalt Satisfaction

Are you Colbalt owners happy with your colbalt?
Any major problems showing up?
I am looking at getting a 2007 Colbalt next week. Price is in my range.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

Have an 07 LT 1 W/Auto and cruise. Only has 3,000 miles on it but so far I'm very satisfied.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

I'm only at 5Kmi on my totally basic 2007 LS auto, but I love the darn thing. FWIW, I owned nothing but trucks & SUV's since ~1990. The economy is a welcome change. IMO- a Cobalt is your best bang for the buck if you are looking for good, cheap and fun transportation. We need the van for the kids, shopping, etc., but a Cobalt is sweet little cruiser.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

I have a 2007 Cobalt LT1 Sedan with just over 4000 miles. I am also a previous minivan and SUV owner (haven't owned a regular car in about 20 years). I love the thing -- no significant complaints. I'm averaging 30+MPG in mainly surburban/back country road driving. I still can't get over how smooth it is -- feels and rides like a much larger car. I also can't get over how inexpensive it was to buy and insure. For family and business reasons, I still have my Blazer and Uplander, but I drive the Cobalt almost exclusively these days, over 100 miles per day now. One minor suggestion -- get the aluminum wheels, because the standard wheels with wheel covers make cricket noises on bumpy roads if they are even slightly loose or if tire pressure is even a little bit low. Can't think of a single other thing about the car to complain about.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

Yes the plastic wheel covers do have have a horrible fit/attachment system. Like AJT- says, initially, you'll think you are loosing a wheel or a part of the suspension when you hear the rattling/squeaking over bumps. It's just the wheel covers. I've found if you slather some silicone grease in the lug nut covers, it quiets them quite a bit. If I ever break or loose a wheel cover, I'll definitely just replace them with something aftermarket.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

No key problems in my 07 to date.

Should mention and FWIW. It has been found that the less stuff one has hanging on a key fob the better. Weight has been proven to have a long-term effect on the switch assy.

That's an issue with lots of AT equipped vehicles. Owners spill coffee, soda, etc.. in the console, it soaks the electronics in there; Shifter lock solenoid, etc.. and causes problems. There is a little door on the under side of the steering column cover. Inside the door is release button that will release the key should you loose battery power or have issues.

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

Yup. I forgot about the AT systems: I was going to tell you to make sure the car was in Park first

I like my cobalt, contrary to my name I have an 007 LS. They're sweet little cars, really roomy and they drive well. They aren't very "sporty" unless you go for the SS. With a few GMPP bolt-ons and some parts-swapping you get their 1/4miles down into a reasonable range, but beleive me- if you want tuning and speed you NEED an SS.
I'm going to be retiring my balt pretty soon though, I want something RWD and fast (unless my pipe dream suddenly comes true )

Re: Cobalt Satisfaction

I have two Cobalts:

My 05 base sedan I bought used with 38,000 miles, it now has 51,000. I use it for pizza delivery. I bought it last January. So far the only problem I have had is the key wouldn't come out of the ignition one day several months ago but since then it's been fine. One other minor thing, the chrome plating on the drivers side door handle has started peeling. It was so jagged I just had to rip it all off to avoid cuts. The hubcaps are also noisey when going over bumpy roads.

My 06 SS/SC I bought new in March of 06, has 15,000 now. Most of those miles has been through taking 3 road trips from Denver to California, other than that it stays in the garage. NO problems with this car so far other than a few rattles. Love this car!
