Rally reference photos needed for 1998 Safari Rally

Hi,

I'm doing a tribute build of the McCrea/Grist 1998 Subaru Safari Rally car. I was wondering if anyone had some reference photos of the car. I've checked the usual sources on the net and came up empty.

Also, does anyone know of a source in the US for rally DVDs?

I have some photos of Burns' car from the Safari rally, but I think they're of the 1999 car. I can post them if you're interested.

I'll look and see what I have tonight - not sure there's a lot out there on the 1998 Safari. Did you look on SWRT.com?

swrt.com had 5 photos with only one distant one of Colin's car. It looks like the car may have had the "555" logo, since Piero Liatti and Fabrizia Pons' car did. I have the Tamiya kit and it has the substiture logo. Where can I get the proper logo?

Have a look on mediamixhobby.com.sg for the correct '555' logo.

You're 100% correct, in 1998 the car did run with teh '555' logo on it, on the rallies where tobacco advertising was banned it had the crescents as depicted in the kit decals.

Yep, but Tamiya produced the kit with the crescents which are essentially incorrect for that rally.

Here are a few that I have from various sources. The problem you will have is that both cars DNF'd during SS9/10.





Take note of the shackle attached to the upper left corner of the roo bar. Good quick towing point.

I don't think that would be a 'roo bar in Kenya! Maybe a Banded Mongoose bar!

One major difference between the kit and the 1:1 is that the airscoop doesn't all the way to the roof. I guess I'll have to cut that. Also, are those are vents on the roof? I'm not sure I'm going to be able to open those.

They are made by MSM. Never used those before. Are they any good? Are these all I need? Can anyone point me to better decals?

Those are for the Hasegawa kit which is smaller so they may be on the small side, also the Hasegawa decals are a different yellow so those may not match the kit decals.
