need help with replacing radiator this weekend
I am going to replace the radiator this weekend on the 96XJ 4.0L 2wd. I have a few questions:
a. Should I do a flush of any kind? I was planning on just emptying the old stuff, and replacing with new 50/50 coolant. Should I run a garden hose to the block? Would that do anything? b. what about the transmission cooler lines? This is an idiot question, but is there tranny fluid going through the radiator, and if so, do I need to drain that first? How much tranny fluid would I have to buy as replacement? Any other tips from somebody who did this? I already have the radiator, but I wasn't going to replace the hoses (they looked/felt pretty good). Thanks, Chris |

Re: need help with replacing radiator this weekend
I didn't flush mine, but the water was pretty clear to begin with.
You will lose some transmission fluid when you disconnect the lines. you might need some new o-rings when you clip them back on. Just have a few quarts on hand. |

Re: need help with replacing radiator this weekend
Just remember that the coolant is toxic...even to animals and dogs. Please dispose of properly. Note: I flush it in the toilet and not let it go into storm drainage or creeks.
I would recommend adding an external trans cooler at this time and flushing the ATF. See other posts about this. |
