Re: 85 Riviera

Hello again,

I just gave you the answer I believe will help with your interior lights in the other thread. As far as your check engine light, yes, when you lose the speedo cable, the computer is going to get annoyed at the lack of signal from the vehicle speed sensor on the back of the speedo... You didn't say if you've fixed the cable yet, though, and I would expect it to turn off the light after a few ignition cycles with the speedo working again.

For jumpering the ALDL and reading & resetting codes, you'll have to get a decent manual. I always used a Mitchell Manual for my '81 Eldorado, but I imagine that Chilton would have code charts & procedures, too.

Hi jase386,

I'm here again. I know your frustration of waiting and waiting for a response. Go to your local Advance or Autozone and get a copy of the Haynes manual for our cars. It will tell you exactly how to access the on-board diagnostic system and what the codes mean. The post from "trapped" about the sensor and the computer is good.

My E-mail is:

Write to me directly if you want.

Mark

p.s. Sorry about never getting back about the Opera lights.
