Front Loose

Hello all,

I have a problem thats driving me crazy. When going down the road and hit any kind of bump the front end wobbles, rattles, and shakes like crazy. Sometimes it feels like the axle is just gonna fall off. I have a 2001 with no lift. what are some things i can check, i just put new shocks on about 3 months ago, to try to fix the problem. So what else would cause the rattling and everything? Also sometimes when i hit a bump ill end up on the other side of the road sometimes, from it feeling so loose. Everything seems pretty tight. I also have a lot of play in steering wheel. Any Help is Great! ThankS in advance!

Re: Front Loose

Try the steering stabilizer shock. I had some wheel vibration when I would hit a bump and it was that. Also if you buy one go with skyjacker(little stiffer) like I did.

Re: Front Loose

That is called "death wobble" or DW for short. Search for this.

Re: Front Loose

When I had the Death Wobble, it at first would only do it at about 65 mph. As time wore on it started doing it at 50, 40, once even at 25 mph at almost every bump and pothole.

When I bought new tires they balanced them, and I haven't had the DW since.

All in all, the two main things to check are wheel balance and steering links/joints. Have a friend rock the wheel back and forth while you climb under and check out all the joints. Unless you have really long arms. Then you can do it yourself.

A steering stabilizer is like a pain killer. It treats the symptoms, but doesn't fix the problem. After I installed mine, it fixed the DW for about four months, then it came back.
