Sunfire 96 hesitate/jerks problem ?

hi all,
this car so far has been trouble.. well it has always been the same trouble !

It's a sunfire 96 5 speed transmission, 2.2L and since i've ahd it it has been jerking/hesitating when in low rpm in each gears... let's say i'm in 2nd gear at 2500 Rpm.. and when I press the gas the car will act as if it's missing gas and when it will be high enough in rpm it will be fine !

So far i've changed fuel pump (brand new one) fuel filter and a few others things that i don't remember ! yep the problem it still there, went to see a few mechanics.. all said it was the fuel pump, so i changed it but that didn't solve it !

Don't know if this could be related... but my clutch is quite used and doesn't work very well, but could this be part of the problem ?

any idea would be appreciated

thanks !

Re: Sunfire 96 hesitate/jerks problem ?

It could be a burned exhaust valve. If the exhaust valve is burned it will cause it to misfire during idle speeds. Let the car run when it is warmed up and put a piece of paper by the exhaust pipe and if it gets sucked in during and intake stroke its because the valve is burned and is bad(Tim Gilles).

I agree with the reply that suggested coilpacks , wires, plugs? Normally under load at lower rpm situations when a vehicle experiences a sharp jerk opposed to a general loss of power it comes down to a breakdown in the ignition. Sprk plug wires are very prone to this. At higher RPMs with more fuel the demand changes and usually the misfire goes away. It is impossible to tell without some diagnostic equipment but if you are trying to save money and haven't had plugs or plug wires for a while, put them on for the sake of maintanence and see what happens. If not you will probably need to see about getting it checked out by a trained technician. Good Luck and let us know how you come out.
