Installed Ram Jet 350 problems with 700r4 tranny, please help

I recently installed a Ram Jet 350 engine in what used to be a v6 camaro. Someone told me that I should take out the tranny computer for the v6 and put in a v8 tranny computer. That makes sense but doesnt the main computer work with that tranny computer? I dont have the wires hooked up to the sensors but i didnt cut the wires from the original harness..Im thinking of having a th350 rebuilt and installed instead of dealing with the electronic 700r4...I am looking into putting in 3.73 gears with a posi unit as well to get off the line better...any ideas would be appreciated

Re: Installed Ram Jet 350 problems with 700r4 tranny, please help

If this is a true 700R4 and not a 4L60E, then there is no computer for the transmission. In fact the only electrical hook-up will be for the torque converter lock-up and possibly the VSS to run the speedometer.
A TH350 will actually hurt your launch because it uses a much taller 1st gear than the 700R4's do,
A bit more info on your set up would help...ie. induction type (TPI, carb etc) Year of car, what if any ECM programming has been done.

Re: Installed Ram Jet 350 problems with 700r4 tranny, please help

I think the tranny itself is probably no good...so how does the torque converter lock up work with the wires coming out of it? The ram jet is a 350 small block engine that comes with its own computer and wiring harness...there are two electrical connections like you said on the tranny...I dont know if the cable thats connected to the throttle body to the transmission is connected properly. Is there a good way to get the proper adjustment? thanks for your help

Re: Installed Ram Jet 350 problems with 700r4 tranny, please help

To adjust the transmission TV cable (equates to the old kick-down cable) Find the D shaped adjustor where the cable anchors to the bracket near the throttle body. Press in on the end of the D and then slide the plastic end coming out of the cable housing all the way away from the throttle body. Let go of the D button and then fully open the throttle. You should hear a ratcheting noise and the plastic thing you pushed in will extend some. The TV cable is now properly adjusted.

The torque converter lock-up is controlled by the ECM, there is a lock-up solenoid inside the trans that it controlls. The TV cable must be properly adjusted and the throttle position sensor set properly for the transmission to shift correctly and lock-up as it should.
