Painting
I see some people using what apears to be a putty to hold different body parts on tooth picks while painting. What is this putty stuff and where can I get it?

Re: Painting
It's "fun tack" or "sticky tack" or whatever it's called to you and in your area. It's basically just a gooey, silly putty like substance that's a little stickier. It's used, as the linked thread says, primarily for holding posters in place on dorm room walls. You can usually get it anywhere this time of year, from Wal-Mart to and office supply store to a craft store. It comes usually in a blister-on-card package, in what looks like sticks.
Don't worry, I could have searched for a week and never found that thread, either. And even if I could have, it would've been a lot less effort for me to have just posted an answer than it would have been for me to search it, post it, and be kind of petulant about it.

Re: Painting
The blue tack is quite expensive for me to buy here and I have found it has a limited life cycle because it get s covered in paint and quickly loses it's "stickiness"
For me a cheaper alternative is long bamboo skewer sticks and thin strips of double-sided, carpet adhesive tape. It holds parts very well and you can just put another strip of tape over it and re-use the bamboo many times.

Re: Painting
on sticks+tape and Blu-tackLike Klutz says blu-tack (or what-ever its called where you live) looses it's stickyness pretty quickly. I use it for parts that can't be stuck onto double sided tape and also masking. I use the sticks and tape method most of the time though.

Re: Painting
The blue stuff isn't very strong, I found some orange stuff that's much stronger. I mixed it w/the blue. Lasts a long time, even w/paint. I find it easier than tape most of the time.
Silly Putty is a good quick masking agent. I just camo'd a Supermarine Spitfire Mk. I with it, and it worked perfectly.

Re: Painting
Since Dag's thread is actually listed under painting in the 'HOW TO' section, there should be no need for anyone to struggle to find it.
Beyond that, I thought this thread was about where to buy the tacky stuff?
