WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
Well, it's been just over 10 years since I last built a model and figured it was time to pick something up again to take away the stress of the work day. I decided to start off with the GT-One, looking back, maybe something a little simpler would have been a better idea
![]() Everything is hand brushed unfortunately because I have nowhere to airbrush, except the body which will be sprayed with Tamiya spray paints. I never actually painted a model before fully in this much detail and as you can see I have a long way to go before I even approach the level of some..... most of the builders on this site. Here is a shot of the engine. I never really knew how much detail went into these before. ![]() The drivers cabin, seatbelt was a pain in the neck to get right, very nearly ended up leaving it out, glad I didn't though. ![]() Pieces coming together now (yes the decal is on upside down, was not thinking straight but it was too late to correct the situation as I did it on both sides )![]() ![]() ![]() That's the progress so far. Maybe someone can shed some light on how to paint the exterior. There is a masking seal that came with the car (pic) ![]() But I'm not sure where the two triangles go that are in the top right and top left corner... any ideas? Also, for those who have done this model before, did you mask off the nose of the car and spray it white and then apply the masking seal over the white area and then spray the rest of the car red? Is that the way to do it? Well, there you have my first model in ages and my first post on this site, I need to work on a lot of things so hopefully I will get better with each model. Cheers, -CT |

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
Welcome to the site, and welcome back to modeling!
I've done this model 3 times so, I think I know how to paint it...... Connect the left seal with the large seal (A) And the right seal with the small strip seal (B). This will make the car an accurate the the real one having Triangular white area's. Theres a great example of the correctly built up one here: http://www.werkshomepage.de/Mix/ToyotaGToneNr3.jpg When it comes to masking it, I Primed the whole thing, masked off the white parts, painted it TS-49, removed the mask and masked off the red parts and painted it Pure white. Good luck, hope I was of some help.

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
This is coming along very nicely - especially so that you are painting with a briush!
A small suggestion. You might want to brush a wash over those coolers/radiators. It should really add a lot of realism to them when it settles into the grille pattern.

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
Very nice work so far and considering you brush painted everything as well, incredible! I've never done this model before so I can't comment on the masks, but looking at the colours I would maybe use ordinary Tamiya tape instead of the masks as I find it follows the curves better and I would paint the white first.Just the way I would do it,others may do it differently.

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
I've built this kit before and painted the white first as well...trying to spray white over red is just about impossible
Looks good so far! |

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
Oh, please don't try to brush paint the body, it would look awful

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
Bikourous - thanks for that link, makes it clear now what I need to mask off.
Klutz - I'll look into a wash and might give it a try, probably should pick up some thinner! The body will not be handbrushed, it will be sprayed with TS-49 and a white but I forgot the number. Thanks for the comments! |

Re: WIP: Toyota GT-One TS020
I cant believe that the rads are brush painted... they are soooo nice and look like the have been airbrushed with Alclad.
Great start. Bill |

Looks really good!
I only have a doubt: the back of the discs of brake, should not it go painted as the rest of them?? |

And yes, the radiators were like that already, can't take credit for that. The body is still waiting on primer and painting, makes things a little difficult living in an apartment, don't think the girlfriend would appreciate me spraying my cars on the couch ![]() So, in the meantime I'm working on my first Grand Prix car - a Leyton House which I'll get some pictures up in another thread later on. Thanks for the comments! |

He's right - it should look like this. Oddly Tamiya don't tell you to use the triangle pieces despite them being in the kit!! Here's mine. Also note the Marlboroesque markings on the rear wing.![]() ![]() Keep up the good work. It's a great kit and it's nice to see one being done.
