Well maybe it's time that the guys in the Nigerian government who keep sending me emails and faxing asking me to help them out in spiriting money out of Nigerian coffers by using my bank account could use the money to:

- Provide decent housing for the populace
- Provide decent infrastructure in the way of roads, sanitation and potable water
- Provide a consistent, visible and transparent civilian police force and judicial system with universal availability
- Provide for employment, education and empowerment to allow the civilian populace to get decent work instead of having import skilled labour to identify, exploit and transport Nigeria's oil reserves

Oh that's right - the warlord are too busy diverting aid to line their pockets and buy bigger standing militia and weapons (ever see a starving Nigerian soldier?) to maintain their powerbase rather than giving a rat's arse about the rights and lifestyle of the populace they are oppressing.

I understand that we shouldn't impose our cultural imperialism onto indigenous peoples and expect a western culture and rule of law. And I can appreciate that even in our cultures there are the oppressed and the disenfranchised - but fatwas and stoning unmarried mothers to death. Even from my well travelled and open minded point of view that's a pretty rough call...
