Wiper Switch or Motor

Check it out. The wipers only work on high (which makes me look like an idiot in a drizzle). They also shut off as soon as to switch them off (even if they are still in the up position). Is it the switch or some other electric component between the switch and the motor?

My Taurus (which uses the same stalk switch) had the same issue and replacing the stalk switch (basically the whole wiper/signal arm) fixed the problem.

About 20 minutes to take the old one off and put the new one one. 4 screws to take the steering column cover off and two or three screws and a connector to take the stalk off. You might have to tilt your steering if you have tilt to manag to take the plastic cover off the steering column....Oh and the ignition cap (black piece your key slides in) snaps off and back on just by pulling (at least on my 97 Taurus it did).

Yes it is the multi-function switch. Ford talk for wiper control. Everything that controls your wipers is contained in this switch. Misting, Hi and Lo speeds, interval and wiper blades going down when they are shut off. You can't go wrong. That's the culprit.

Hope nobody minds me jumping on this thread but I am trying to help a friend with his wiper issue. Same problem, only has wipers on high, tried new motor and column switch with out any luck, next guess is something called the interval wiper module(or something close) that basically just controls the wipers in the intermittent mode. Does this make sense, if so where is it located? Dealer want $120 for the part so we'll try the junk yard 1st. Thanks for your help. It's a 92' explorer by the way.
