4.3L 2000 Sierra Hesitation/No Start Prob

Almost like clockwork as soon as i rolled over 125,000miles it begun. Started out with some bad hesitation when driving up to a certain RPM. Eventually It wouldnt start at all. It'll crank but wont fire, pretty strong smell of gas as well. If it sits a few days 3-4 it'll fire up after a little coaxing.

Smelled the dipstick and it had a very strong odor of gas. Thinking I had a leak I eventually got down into the upper intake and there was a nice little glistening pool of gasoline sitting on the intake right below the pressure regulator (#6 cylinder i believe) The entire intake was fairly clean. Only spots with alot of carbon build up is on some of the higher points.

I've checked/replaced most of the regular items associated with a fuel problem (60-61psi from the pump) Replaced all the plugs/wires/distributor and spark is present.

I did get the following codes as well

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

I am willing to bet the regulator assembly is bad. I have had one act exactly as described and replacing the assembly repaired it.

Update*

Removed the CPI "spider" and cleaned the entire thing, soaked the fpr as well once it was all back together it started right on up. Running pretty bad still...but running. Gonna change the oil to get that gas out of it and see how it goes.

$20 says i'll be replacing the whole assy in a week
