Question Wet Sanding??

Hi guys,
Just want to check with you what you guys mean by wet sanding??
I have tamiya fine sandpaper and i normally sand them without water.
This leaves scratches which i clear with compound for a long time.
So what is wet sanding and will it leave a lot of scratches too?
It always seems that when i compound, the colour on the car can be found on my cloth.. Is this normal?
Thanks!!

Get some warm water and optional some car soap (non acidic). Fill a bowl or sink with it, and then leave the wet/dry sandpaper to soak for about 5-10 mins. If you're leaving visible scratches, you need to use a higher grit sandpaper, around 1500+. Also, when using rubbing compound, it's normal for some of the paint to come off on the cloth. Unless of course you clearcoated the paint in which case it shouldn't show.

WET SANDING IS PAPER THAT WONT FALL TO BITS IN WATER AND CAN BE USED WITH WATER WHEN SANDING
I use it all the time for sanding as the paper seems to last longer and there is no dust etc. The marks are left as the paper is to course for what you are doing. Lightly rubbing with a 1500 grit paper is what is needed to finish a model off before painting.

It is normal for rubbing compound to remove the paint...becareful or you will rub it all off and have to start again

Wet sanding keeps the sandpaper from clogging up with paint which causes scratches and other problems. Just keep dipping the sandpaper in the water once in awhile while using it to keep it cleaned out. Also wipe your work dry once in awhile to check progress.
