Re: tranny PROBLEMS?
Well that was one long sentence.
![]() Why wouldn't the transmission work? Just as long as you get one from a 88-91 it should bolt right up, even the 92+ D-series will bolt up, but those are hydraulic instead of cable.

Re: tranny PROBLEMS?
Wrong.
88 transmissions are different. They have 21 splines on the input shaft. 89-91 transmissions only have 20. That must have been what the problem was...he must have either sold you an '88 tranny which wouldn't work because you're using the 90-91 clutch style, or you already had an '88 tranny because the previous owner swapped it out or something. You can use an 88 tranny, but you have to use the 88 clutch. 89-91 has to use the 89-91 clutch. BTW, the 90-91 clutch is slightly larger in diameter than the 89 clutch.

Re: tranny PROBLEMS?
thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking when I asked
"what exactly was "wrong" we had that problem on my friend's 4th gen... bought a clutch, and the guy sent a '91 clutch for an '88 |
