95 monte carlo torque converter question
Hey guys, i'm working on a 95 monte carlo w the 3.4 eng, and i've dropped the trans (along with all the suspension, if anybody's worked on one of these u know it's either pull the motor or drop the suspension) to change the input shaft seal that's begun to leak. Anybody know how 2 get that blasted robins egg blue torque converter off? It seems to be stuck or something O.o i'm baffled, i've never come accross a torque converter that takes more than a few good tugs to get off. I had the lumina/monte carlo book, but i seem to have missplaced it. Any info/advice?
Thanx -Aaron- |

Re: 95 monte carlo torque converter question
Do you mean disconnect it from the trans input shaft, if so, sounds like the pump bushing may be damaged and holding the convertor, this could also cause the leaks.

Re: 95 monte carlo torque converter question
Oh wow, hadn't even thought about that. Makes perfect sense though, cuz the leak is really bad.(as in it'll dump most of the fluid outa there if you take it for a drive!) Any idea how to get that booger off? i tied a rope to the 3 bolts, in a knot in the middle, made a long loop, and gave it a few good yanks with a sledge hammer, it's pretty stuck!

Re: 95 monte carlo torque converter question
The best way to do this is to pull the trans, and check the convertor bushing and seal and replace if necessary.
