Catalic Converter

Hi Does anyone know what causes increased gas flow in a motor, which damages catalic converters? Over the past nine years I've had to replace my catalic converter 4 times. I was told that to much gas is flowing through the engine which damages the catalic converter. The last converter I had installed lasted a little over a month.
