Primer.
I just got a Tamiya Mitsubish Lancer Evolution VI
This is my first time building a Tamiya. Body is molded in white, it indicates to paint the bottom part the same colour as the body, and I chose Tamiya Spray Metallic Blue. However, for my past 4-5 models, I've sprayed them right away. This one really makes me feel that I need primer. I know I *need* it anyways, but I never used it. I'm just afraid that shooting it with the metallic blue, it may look washed out, if it doesn't hit the body right, as if the paint doesn't stick. I really suck at doing mist/light coats too, I end up doing a few heavy coats. I need to practice on that. So I'm sure you would all agree it definitely needs primer. What should I go with? I've heard bad things about the Tamiya Primers from here though... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

You're heard bad things about Tamiya primers? You're sure?
I can assure you there's nothing wrong with Tamiya primer. Testors primer on the other hand, treat it like it comes with a free case of the plague.

What Ray sed.
Tamiya grey is what you want. Try the hot water trick for warming the spray can before you paint. It helps alot with getting good even mist coats.

Yeah, that's almost definately it.
Tamiya laquer clear (TS-13) is a very good product, but like all laquer clears it requires care and patience to apply properly- spray it too quickly and heavily and it can destroy paint and decals under it. No worries about the primer, though.

When I get that feeling that I might have the erge to wet coat it straight away, I mist coat it then put it in my dehydrator and work on something else in the kit.
