how would you have handled this?
need to release some stress so here's my thread... any words of wisdom would be appreciated... last night a friend threw a small party, so i got some drinks and parked up my skyline on his lawn, expecting to leave my car there for the night as i would be drunk and unable to drive. the night was good, hours go by, everyone enjoying themselves being drunk assholes, when all of a sudden somebody calls for me saying "somebody's in your skyline!" i get up, not really believing anything is going on, and walk around to the lawn to find somebody inside my car DOING FUCKING LINELOCKS on the grass. smoke pissing everywhere from the wheels. (still dont know how he got my keys) he sees that i've come and shuts down the car, gets out and starts walking back to the deck with a big fucking smile on his face. i'm fucking enraged, i walk up to him, snatch my keys and start pushing, screaming and ranting. but i get no apology, only warnings of what will happen if i push him again. so i smacked him in the forehead (lol), to which he punched me in the jaw. people who were watching ran over and grabbed us, and that was it. after a short episode of me screaming at other people to move their cars and being held back on a fence from driving away drunk (would have only parked up a couple streets away and gone to sleep lol), everything settled down.
so what the fuck? i thought this dude was my good friend! that same day he had got me the use of a workshop to replace my wheel studs and helped with the whole thing. i hang around with him all the time. am i right to have flipped out? somebody said that night "you shouldnt end a friendship over something materialistic" but for fucks sake, how much more blatant of a line is there to cross! so, the essential question here is, did i go to far or was i justified in going nuts?

Re: how would you have handled this?
Linelocks = powerbraking?
If that's the case, I really wouldn't have cared.

Re: how would you have handled this?
I'd be pissed if someone did that! First of all it is YOUR PROPERTY and I feel that what you did was most justified!! Pricks piss me off!! please see my thread titled "respect"

Re: how would you have handled this?
he sounds like a prick to me.
None of my friends would get hold of my keys and piss about with my (admittedly pissant) car. Change the specifics. None of my friends would piss about with something of mine without asking first.

Re: how would you have handled this?
There's only 1 friend I have that would be able to get my car keys without too much of a headache. That said, he also knows how much work, pain, money, blood, and labor I've put into my car, and he knows its more important to me than anything else.
But if tomorrow he went and did whatever linelocks are (I'm assuming its something that's hard on the engine, tires, and transmission,) I'd literally beat the living daylights out of him. And he'd be pissed for me kicking his ass probably, but I'm guarantee a few weeks later, we'd be out, having a good time with beers in hand. I'm not saying its the best advice, because it probably isn't. However, its what I would have done in your situation. He knew damn well how much your car meant, and what would have happened if he was playing around and something broke, or crashed into something? Play is fine, but only when permission is given.

Re: how would you have handled this?
Stories like that are why I'm glad most of my friends can't drive stick, and the ones who can definitely know better than to do some shit like that. Only one time has anybody driven my car without my permission and I almost killed him in the dorm parking lot, and all he did was drive a loop around the parking lot. After I lostmy urge to kill he said "I just wanted to practice driving stick"... my car is not for frickin practice

Re: how would you have handled this?
Friends and booze don't always mix. You may say/do something you may regret later.
If the guy was a total stranger, your reaction was justified. But your buddy just got a bit out of hand and did something he thought was funny. You should have told him off, but not beaten him, imo. So he misjudged your reaction and went too far. Haven't we all done this after a few drinks? Friends can forgive this kind of stupidity and just move on with our lives. |

Re: how would you have handled this?
I wouldnt have hit him but I would have just told him not to touch my car again.

Re: how would you have handled this?
thanks for the replies everyone....i assume the keys fell out of my hoodie pocket..... eventually i'll have to end up seeing him again cause we hang out with the same people, and there wont be any drama unless he wants to start it. i should really mention, this ISNT something he did just because he was drunk. a few weeks back he shot his friend's intercooler with a paintball gun 5 times and destroyed the fins. when confronted he said he wouldnt pay for it, just flip it around! he loves pulling stupid shit like this to people who cant take him in a fight, he thinks he doesnt have anything to worry about when all is said and done. (he would have taken me if it hadnt been broken up after the jaw punch). im not going to be friends with somebody who cant see the line between funny and fucked up.

Re: how would you have handled this?
Your call,but~~~~~~~~~~~
Either control your keys or give them to someone you TRUST to control them. In my circle of friends, no one would even think of using my ride in any way without my EXPRESS permission, no matter who has the keys at the time. Even if I, or we were inebriated or under some influence. Maybe you should monitor your intake a bit. Nor would I use their ride without their permission. In ANY way. And, in my circle, we would do our damnedest to keep the ride safe and secure, and above all UNABUSED!!!!!!!!!! You need to square that crap fast with the guy. No matter what, he had NO right to abuse your ride, even presuming you can be okay with him using it. Good grief |

Re: how would you have handled this?
Actually, I would say this is your only strike. I would get law enforcement any next time. And, either press it or let the moron sweat a bit. I would not allow that to happen in the first place, but since it did in your case, I would certainly not allow anything like that a second time.

Re: how would you have handled this?
Same thing happened to me man, A friend of mine snatched my keys when I was drunk. All I heard was tire screechin and someone goin isn't that "YOUR" Rx7? I ripped the kid out of my car when he got back and told him to get the fuck out which point my other friend hit him in the head with a flaming tiki torch. He got it real fast...
Bottom line ~ Yea, You have every right to mad at him thats fucking disrespect in a very high form especially to someone who is passionate about his automobile.
