speedo lights wont come on

Ok... Today, I get in my rex and start it up. Turn on the lights and the speedo and rpm lights wont come on. I happen to have my headlight bulbs out, but i dont think that has anything to do with it because it was working just yesterday and i had them out. Anyways, When i turn the lights on, my clock light dims. When i turn the lights off, the clock light gets brighter. Ive checked fuses and there was none i seen blown. What do you guys think it might be?

clock light dims b/c you turned on your parking lights when you turn on your dash lights... dimmer is set by relay on the switch, tells it that b/c your parking lights are on, it must be night.. dim clock is less of a distraction, thus, safety feature.

If your stereo is hooked up right it will dim as well. Probably the bulbs, although my cluster lights dont come on anymore either..dunno why yet, they worked when I bought it, and a few weeks later theyd flicker then sometimes not work. Usually hitting the shroud or the fuse panel underneath fixed it for awhile but not anymore :P

frodoGT, replace your dimmer switch, that will usually make them come back on again, or check the contacts on the gauge panel where the bulbs connect, they might be dirty, etc.

EDIT: replace either the dimmer or the headlight/parking light switch... could be either, but if you were hitting the dash, it's pry the dimmer.

lol sometimes my right light doesnt come on..if i usually tap a good beat it comes on..just be nice to it dont beat on it lol

Havnt checked the bulbs because i havnt had time yet. (kids driving me nuts!) ... I noticed though, that the climate control light isnt coming on either.

dunno what to tell ya then Frodo, unless it's loose/faulty wiring/connections... my first guess is always the switch tho, b/c it's common.

@ CRXproject -- it only takes about 20 mins to take the gauge panel out and check the lights, don't mess up the plastic circuit film on the back of it... you have to twist the lights to get them out.

Found the problem... The plug in the back of the dimmer switch was loose. Pushed it in just to go over little things, cuz you never know what it might be. tried that and it worked. thanks for your help anyways guys.

Well I dunno what it was, but I fixed it...took the dimmer off, its workin, took the shroud off and unscrewed the cluster and noticed that the lights had come on... it wasnt the dimmer plug because it was working when I removed it, and the lights work without it even plugged in. So i screwed it all back together and left it alone.

heh... wow... lucky shit there... love it when that happens, and hate it all at the same time. b/c then the next time it happens, you have no idea how to fix it
